Picking up the hire car at Picton we headed SE towards Blenheim and a two night stop at the extraordinary hotel d'Urville. Housed in a neoclassic bank building (strong room doors and all) its restaurant is considered the areas best. A wonderful experience and great value. |

Each room has a theme plus the usual massive bed and in our case a four poster. |

One of the treats laid on for us by our hosts, Chris and Julia Knowles, was a chauffeur driven tour of local wineries. |

45 premium wineries are within easy reach of the hotel and of course whale watching and trout fishing. Alan Scotts winery was just a sample of those in the locality. |
