Martinborough
Moving South along Highway 2 took us through Otane, Waipukurau and Dannevirk (nice craft shops and tea rooms) and down on to Featherston where we turned of for the short drive to Martinborough. As ever the route takes you through spectacular scenery so cameras at the ready.
Martinborough reminds you of an old "Wild West" town, sidewalks and balcony's. Wyatt Earp is probably around somewhere. Our stop over for the night was the Martinborough hotel where the accomodation is excellent and the dining even better.
Themed and spacious, well equipped rooms open up onto the balcony overlooking the main street. New Zealand has plenty of timber and just about everywhere has magnificent wooden floors.
This is wine country so get stocked up for the next phase of the trip. There are some cracking local wines and the restraurant at the hotel has a good stock. Looking for parking spaces isn't a problem and the possibility of being run down seems fairly remote.
