Rear fog lamp:

One red coloured rear fog lamp must be fitted to the centre or offside of vehicles first used from 1st April 1980. Additional rear fog lamps or rear fog lamps fitted to vehicles first used before this date are not testable.  Rear fog lamps should only operate when the headlamps are switched on but this in itself is not a reason for failure. The test procedure is that with the ignition on and the dipped headlamps operating, the rear fog lamp should illuminate when its switch is closed. A tell tale to indicate the rear fogs are on must be fitted.

Front fog lamps are not subject to the MOT test.

All vehicles used in the UK must comply with UK regulations, including imported vehicles. Even some very recent vehicles may still not meet the requirements for rear fogs, direction indicators and stop lamps and owners may not be aware of this. Bringing these vehicles up to UK specification may involve major body surgery and can be expensive.
