Seats:

Drivers and front passenger seats must be securely mounted but they are not subject to the prescribed area requirements unless the seat belts are attached to them and where this is the case, all seat mountings become prescribed areas.

The seat back rest of all seats (front and back) must be able to be secured in the upright position, but original design characteristics must be considered e.g Reliant Scimitar rear seats could not be secured as originally built.

Remember that original design characteristics and specialised modifications (e.g to enable wheelchair access) are to be accepted.

Seats that have been removed may cause problems when it comes to assess the seat belts which must be fitted, particularly the specified front passenger seat.
