Shock absorbers (dampers)

Shock absorbers are regarded as part of the suspension system and as such are subject to the requirements of Appendix "C" (corrosion etc) with regard to their mounting areas.

Shock absorbers that are missing or not fitted to a vehicle on which they are standard will fail as will external damage or corrosion which means the unit doesn't function.

Shock absorbers that are insecure or detached (this may be as a result of corroded mounting areas of course) will also fail.

Fluid leaks must be serious enough to indicate a fluid seal has failed before they can be failed.

Excessive wear in linkages, bushes or pivots or negligible damping effect (subjective and depends on the vehicle type and model) will also be rejected.
